An Ethics Problem? A Shopping Tip? Or Something Else....?

Ethics students: You don't have to comment on this. But you might want to.
It was what we used to call "sophmoric," a word that really works here because it was probably written by sophomores. You are right that in context the intent may well have been clear and thus the possibility of a lawsuit was low. But someone probably pointed out that it was a joke by presumably privileged college kids at the expense of people a lot poorer, etc... So what do you think? A good-natured joke willfully misunderstood by the PC police or a cheap shot at the less fortunate?
